OPEN TASK 2
I extended one of images from my [Siteworks II] work to produce a gif.
I am in love with the 1960s and 70s minimalism and conceptual art movement, and I find a lot of my views of art influenced by the attitudes of that time.
For example, right after my first studio session in week 1, I felt very passionate and dramatic about art and wrote myself a manifesto-type list of 'rules' for my art:

ADD and SUBTRACT
ADD
- I applied clear tape around the edges, like a frame. I like that it was almost invisible, but made a difference because of its light reflectiveness. I liked the subtleness of it.
- I placed black electric tape, equal increments apart. I liked using electric tape, because it stretched unevenly, which worked well against its measured placement.
- I scribbled all over the board with graphite. I decided to stop trying to keep things so neat, and allowed myself to do make super instinctive marks on the board. I picked graphite because it would mark over the black tape.
SUBTRACT
- I broke it in half by stepping on it. This revealed a pretty puzzle-piece like quality in a part of the wood grain, which I hadn't noticed.
- I drew lines running the same direction as the black lines, using graphite, and used an engraver to engrave to engrave them. The engraving was not perfectly straight, and I liked this hand-drawn quality.
- drew more lines between the engraved lines, and drew over them with a hot glue gun. I liked the unplanned dots created
- I drew dots with hot glue at any 'points' in the graphite scribbles.
The main aspect that I found challenging about this activity, especially doing it by myself because I missed the class, was letting go of control. I constantly had to remind myself to not judge the process, and I had intense bursts of wanting to let go of control, such as the scribbling and the breaking of the board, but immediately did something very measured and considered to try and counteract this.
