With the first three works (fig 1, 2, 3), my intent was to use each of the 3 materials as the base of 3 separate works. Clay forms the base of work 1, aluminium wire of work 2, and chicken wire of work 3. I like the juxtaposition of weight displayed in work 3, with the heaviness of the clay at the base, and lightness of the unravelling, upward climbing chicken wire at the top.

In works 3, 4 and 5, I made use of spacial placing of forms to create a compositions, rather than trying to ensure all elements were joined somehow. I believe that the works benefitted from this.

In work 6, the chicken wire is incorporated by pressing some scrap pieces of chicken wire, into the clay base.

By having to create 6 works that were very different from each other, it forced me to approach each work with a clean plate and naivety, which helped me approach the materials with innovation.
